Aquinas College (1938)  58 Mount Henry Rd, Salter Point (on the Mt Henry Peninsula). The Christian Brothers College in St. George’s Terrace split in 1938 with some day boys and boarders located to Aquinas College beautifully positioned overlooking the Canning River. Clontarf College

Clontarf College, 295 Manning Road, Waterford Clontarf Aboriginal College is the former orphanage for boys operated by the Christian Brothers. During WW 2 it was used as a Training School for the RAAF and through its history it has housed and educated day boys and boarders, orphans and children from disadvantaged families, child migrants and aboriginal children. It is now also the venue of popular Saturday morning markets.

John Bosco Chapel

John Bosco Chapel (1935-1941) 295 Manning Rd ,Waterford Architect: Marie Jackson. This Art Deco building is  a fine example of the Inter-War Romanesque style and  built by the Clontarf boys and Brothers. A narrow tower with an arcaded belfry is located in the south-eastern corner. An original chapel bell was a personal gift of the Archbishop of Perth who consecrated the building on December 20th, 1941. Soon after this time, the College was occupied by the RAAF for the remainder of the war years

Tivoli Theatre and Applecross District Hall (1934) cnr Canning Beach Rd and Kintail Rd, Applecross. Architect: John Fitzhardinge of Eales, Cohen and William G. Bennett. This building has a strongly developed modern geometrical massing with monumental overtones of Art Deco Egyptian influences, like the pylons of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Raffles Hotel (1937) Canning Hwy ( near Canning Bridge) Applecross Architect: Redesigned by W G Bennett .It was originally built in 1850 and then  it was renovated in a style reminiscent of its namesake in Singapore.It is in the Streamlined Moderne style and has a combined panorama of the two rivers – the Swan and the Canning. Como Theatre (Cygnet)

Como Theatre (Cygnet) (1938)   Preston St, Como Architect: WT Leighton.  This theatre is a demonstration of the new functional approach to cinema design in the late 1930’s. The combination of one projection unit for both indoor auditorium and the outdoor picture garden was an innovation of the period. Blue Waters  (1954) 426 Canning Highway, Como Architect: K. D’Alton.  Built for Mabel and Keith Perron who were inspired by a 1930’s Florida Art Deco house. The huge curved windows were a technical challenge for the time and the windows and frames were shipped from the UK.

“Summerhill” (1930) 181 Coode St, Como. A private dwelling. Designed and built for himself and his family by Horace Costello, in the Californian bungalow style. The house is a prominent structure on an important thoroughfare through South Perth and Como and overlooks the Swan River and Kings Park beyond.
