Beacon Theatre

Beacon Theatre  (1937) corner of Hampton Rd and Wray Avenue, South Fremantle.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Architect : Samuel Rosenthal, a pioneering cinema architect.  It is one of the first cinemas to incorporate the Streamlined Moderne style . It also incorporates the strong vertical and horizontal elements with triple banding and geometric curves to enhance its corner location. It has lost its earlier elegance but stands as a defiant monument to the past. It is now a Medical Centre.

  1. I noticed today that above the entrance, the sign “Beacon Theatre” which was in raised brick or concrete, has all been chipped off and painted over. Very disappointing – almost criminal as it was an integral part of the facade.
