The Pagoda
Broadwater Pagoda Hotel, 112 Melville Parade, Como
It was built in the 1922 as a Chinese Tearooms in the Edwardian Oriental style, funded by a Chinese market gardener for a Mr and Mrs Gordon to operate. It was built in response to the popularity of Como Beach, before the Kwinana Freeway went through in 1959 and changed the area irrevocably. Over the years it has been a skating rink, a very popular ballroom and now a restaurant/reception area and hotel. In the 1940’s American soldiers were billeted here and after that it became The Stardust Room.
The Pagoda Long Bar and restaurant is influenced by the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
